Student Data Repository Information

Are you a Masters or PhD student? Would you like your research data to be used in future research projects? Do you want to contribute to the academic community and give access to your research data via a trusted and internationally-accredited repository?

Join the open access movement by allowing SADiLaR to support you as a student to make your research data available for fellow students and academics as well as making a broader impact in your research domain. SADiLaR will also assist you in structuring your data according to international standards.

MORE ABOUT SADILAR:

SADiLaR is a national research infrastructure (funded by the Department of Science and Innovation as part of the South African Research Infrastructure Roadmap) that offers support and various services in the fields of Digital Humanities and Human Language Technology, with impact on the language technology, Humanities and Social Sciences as well as the socio-economic domains.

SADILAR’s LANGUAGE RESOURCE REPOSITORY:

SADiLaR offers a repository to researchers and academics to have access to language resources, various datasets and tools in all of the official languages of South Africa as well as a few other African languages. This repository is free to use by anyone and it also offers a platform for submission of your datasets.

Currently the repository consists of the following collections:

  • Resource catalogue – a collection of language resources available for download: 232 resources
  • Resource index – a collection of language resource metadata, not all available for download: 368 resources
  • Future prospects – SADiLaR will be making available a repository explicitly focusing on student datasets generated as part of their studies and .in some cases required by funders that datasets are deposited in a repository

WHO CAN SUBMIT DATA TO THE REPOSITORY?

Anyone with research data in the fields of languages, the broader Humanities and social sciences can submit their data to the SADiLaR repository. It is an easier process if your university is registered at SAFIRE, but SADiLaR offers support throughout the submission process. So, if you have a dataset we can help you to ensure that your research is made available on a secure environment with the right licencing procedures.

WHY SUBMIT YOUR DATA TO THE SADILAR REPOSITORY?

SADiLaR will assist you to structure your data (naming, sorting and storing of your data) for submission on the repository. The submission of your data will contribute to the international movement towards open science and open data. Your work will receive the credit it deserves through credible and sustainable citation, your authorship is recognised and your data is accessible for future research and studies.

Your research is more likely to reach a broader academic environment, since being on a repository makes referencing an easier task – since all of the metadata is available on the site as well as the CLARIN website. Once your data becomes citable, it is possible for peers to engage based on the same data, instead of being forced to start a process of collecting similar data.
